I’m BaaAAaAaaaack…!
Apologies for those who’ve wanted to see more from me — it’s been a long couple months at work with travel (Manhattan, Chicago, King of Prussia, San Jose, Durham, Chicago again) and then the holiday season started on me. Heh.
Well, I’ll share my amazing Pimento Cheese recipe next time, but that’s one of my new seasonal contributions to our family gatherings. And it’s a hit every time.
BLIND REVIEW TIME!
Well, what better way to kick off my return than with an indiecomics review? Paul reached out to me after having seen a few of my other reviews and my frequent promotion of indies and asked if I’d give his book, NYMPHOBOTS, a review. So, here we go!
At first blush it would be easy to pass this off as a simple T&A book with sex robots, but it’s most definitely not just that, haha. Read on!
(Don’t worry, there are boobies for you in there.)
From the Series
Thrust into the year 2147, where innovation climaxes with the creation of highly advanced Sex bots, known as Nymphobots. An insatiable appetite for these lustful mechanisms means throbbing profits for the Mega Corporations that rule the World. But when one Nymphobot breaks the shackles of her programming and kills her Handler, she threatens to bring the dominating powers to their knees!
The Set-Up
The book opens with a nerdy guy, Danny Neutronic, finding a hot & sexy sex-bot in a dumpster. The sex-bot in question is lying there having an existential crisis before she’s discovered.
The model of this sex-bot is an older one, so Danny (along with Cookie, his cat & best pal) decides she was tossed aside for a newer model so he deactivates her GPS tracker and takes her home.
So, what happens when her previous owner gets horny and decides to come looking for her? Why did he toss her aside in the first place? And what can Danny do about it?
The Review
The book is far more entertaining than I expected — admittedly, I wasn’t sure what to expect with the title LOL. I recently read a book that was similarly presented to me that was… ugh… just awful.1
Anyway, I found NYMPHOBOTS entertaining and not just boobs with a story. There’s something going on with the ‘bots, and there’s a murder. And then another. In an attempt to avoid spoilers, I’ll just say this: there are layers here with the story. And it’s pretty entertaining.
The dialogue is mostly natural and befits a sci*fi tale well. It’s thematically-consistent, with enjoyable characters. I was impressed with most of the lettering (I find the title graphic a bit difficult to read), and you all know how picky I am about lettering. Nothing about the book’s lettering made me cringe at all. Kudos!
The main, Danny Neutronic, is a street-smart mechanical genius character lacking the typical nerdy tropes that could easily befall this type of character. He’s spunky, sometimes chippy, and he fights for what he thinks is right. He’s also not just some horny lil twerp trope — which could easily happen in a book of this sort, too.
The art is really perfect for this book, in every way. It’s quirky when it needs to be quirky, gritty when the scene calls for it, sexy when we see Lani and the other sex-bots (as it should be), and the color work complements the lines and story so nicely.
All in all I’m impressed with the way the whole thing is crafted!

I didn’t post a review of that book, because I’m more interested in promoting indies, not tearing them down. There are a ton of good indies, but there’s a metric crap-ton of bad, too.
