Books I'm Following, Backing, or Otherwise Recommend on Kickstarter, Zoop, or IndieGoGo
I’m back with another round of (soon-to-be) monthly posts about books that I’m supporting (in one way or another) on popular crowdfunding sites! Now, before I get started, the only crowdfunding sites I use are Kickstarter, Zoop, and on occasion, IndieGoGo. I apologize if your favorite platform isn’t listed, but please understand I have my reasons why (maybe I’ll do a post about that some other day).
So, without further ado: my May suggestions!
I Summoned a Demon and She's Kinda My Type Volume #1-2 NSFW
A NSFW graphic novel series about a college dropout who summons a sexy demon girl. For mature fans of Scott Pilgrim.
This is the second Kickstarter for this title, and I’m in for whatever Chris does with this one! The first volume was a fun, funny, sexy, wild-ass ride, so when he announced the pre-launch for this campaign I was like the 40th or so person to turn on notifications — out of almost 400!
I’ve been a fan of Chris’s since I first read The Saturn Effect, a book I backed on Kickstarter all the way up to, and including, the trade paperback collected edition. Chris & I became friends and we supported each other’s campaigns for a while before I made the [very wise, if I must say so myself] decision to recruit Chris to co-author my latest title, I Invested in an International Conglomerate & Went from an MMA Champion to Becoming the First-Ever American Yakuza (live now on Kickstarter, BTW).
Chris is an outstanding creator, with wit, a sense of pace & dialogue, and a humility that belies his capability. He is a part of the foundation of the future of indiecomics, no doubt. Zero hyperbole.
Oh, and did I mention this is such a f*cking FUN book of his…??

The Last Case of Deven & Taylor #1 - Slasher/Murder Mystery
What happens when teen detectives grow up? Deven & Taylor enter adulthood and face their BLOODIEST & MOST PERSONAL case yet!
I LOVE Kat & Phil and all of their work! I’m usually right in line to grab whatever comes out of Lifeline Comics, so no doubt I was there when this one hit pre-launch. This is a brand-new title for them, and here’s the story blurb from the KS page:
The book follows Deven & Taylor, a pair of best friends and now-grown Kid Detectives (a la Scooby Doo, Nancy Drew, and the Hardy Boys) who have just graduated high school and are about to enter adulthood.
The pair have spent their entire childhood solving mysteries...and becoming steadily more hated by the town of Woodvale.
You can back this campaign for another two weeks, and then it’s gone! So, get in while you can! I can promise you that these two creators will not let you down!!!

Scarlet Twilight: Cobalt Crisis
The next Scarlet Twilight adventure is coming!
First off, Benjamin W. Morse is one of the most underrated comic artists out there. PERIOD.
Full disclosure: he did the main cover for my latest [and previously mentioned] title, American Yakuza.
But, not only his he a dope artist, he’s an incredibly inventive and capable all’round creator! The original Scarlet Twlight shook me as a Backer of that first campaign. It hit me as one of the most amazing-looking indiecomics out there and it read like such a pro book. It slapped hard!
So, I backed his August campaign, too.
And now, I’m in line for this next release. If you’re into dope-ass looking books with a great set of characters and an interesting, surprising turn on the lead protagonist role, you really should join me in following and supporting this campaign when it launches! Prelaunch is live now on Zoop.gg!

Pat’s books bring more than just the sexy — he’s a master of characterization, dialogue, pacing, storytelling, humor, and more. But, let’s not fool ourselves with this one, I’m sure it’ll be well-written (it’s Pat), but this book is gonna be bonkers-sexy-fun (again, it’s Pat) and there’s no two-ways about it.

Tap Or Die #1-3 - A NSFW Wrestling Comic
After getting screwed over by the commissioner of his pro wrestling league, Domino will stop at nothing to get his revenge.
Stokes is another collaborator of mine, but like Chris and Benjamin, I started out as a fan first. I met Stokes at a local con and bought his Decay #1. I was impressed with his ability to craft a psychological, gripping tale that hooked you early and demanded you pay attention.
Then we became friends (we also found out we’re from the same region, Hampton Roads!) but I never stopped being a fan. Tap or Die #1 is one of my favorite books of his (I still think Intrusive Thoughts is the most well-crafted book from him, but I digress). So, I backed ToD #2, and of course I am in line for ToD #3!

RISE #1-2: A Superhero Drama
Subverting The Hero's Journey: what would happen if you had to feel good to do good?
Trevor’s first issue of this title was f*cking bonkers-good!!! Hell yeah I’m in for the next issue (and more)!
This book explores the idea of what it means to be a good person as lead character Jonathan has to deal with this question while also exploring the limits of his superpowers. One of those is enough to challenge anyone’s mental & emotional fortitude, integrity, and nature, but to deal with both simultaneously?
Yeah. It’s gripping, engaging, and the book is damn gorgeous. Dude, and those covers!! 🔥🔥🔥

Chris Moses (I Summoned a Demon…) and Anthony Stokes (Tap or Die) co-crafted a dope-ass story for this series, and Damiano Restivo, John Rauch, and Taylor Esposito are turning in some goregous-f*cking art for this title! It’s outstanding!
