So, this isn’t technically the first time I worked with other creators to produce a writing work (see: Vito Delsante, Scott Fogg, and a host of others from Spider-Squirrel #1-3), but this is the first time I’m planning to work with some heretofore “unknowns.”
Now, when I say that, I don’t think I mean what you think it means so let me define the above for you: unknowns are individuals with whom I plan to work and haven’t already done at least one small project together. Vito, Scott, Eric N. Bennett, Ian Sharman, et al., I’ve worked with each of them on smaller projects like 4-8pg tales or partnered in an anthology.
But, after reading Decay and Intrusive Thoughts by Anthony Stokes and The Saturn Effect and CTRL+Z by Chris Moses, I knew I had to work with these gents. Stokes crafts these cerebral, personal stories that pull you into them very naturally and in a well-crafted way. Moses delivers these sprawling, multi-faceted tales that feel like epics, despite the short nature of comics [generally].
Since they were friends, and I had become friends with them, it made good sense to bring the best of both together.
Yeah, it’s kinda that easy. From that point on, we discussed ideas based on the premise & title (okay, yeah, they’re the same thing), what we wanted to do/not do, and with whom we wanted to work for the rest of the creative team.
