Those that know me know that I not only create indie comics, but I put my money where my scripts are! In fact, I’ve been a Kickstarter-designated “SuperBacker” for a long time now.
Yeah, I have a problem and there isn’t a group meeting about it. Ah, well. Use me and abuse me… ew, that sounds icky. 😆
Well, I hope you don’t mind me sharing my problems through Substack therapy here. I’ll start posting weekly updates on my crowdfunding efforts, highlighting all of the cool campaigns (mostly comics) that I’m either supporting financially or following for interest (and will possibly back).
Books I’m Backing!
PROJECT: Big Hype Vol. 2
A 385 page manga sized book - “Shonen Jump” for western comics.
This book looks fun, but I’m also a manga fan. I’m super-intrigued as someone who is planning his own Spider-Squirrel manga for sometime in 2023.
“Waaaaahh…??”
Yeah, that’s kinda breaking news for anyone following me. I haven’t said much about this project, but I’m already plotting it. Targeting between 176 and 256 pages. Black & white with grey/tones. I have a vision here, and this book isn’t just cool-looking but it’s “research” for my own works.
The 13th Labor Issue 1, 2 & 3
A story of a girl, gods, ghosts, aliens, and an intergalactic tournament of champions.
I backed the original campaign from these guys, somehow missed the second, so Im back to back the final and play some catch-up! I love mythology and this book has some really fun art and a lively story — jump in and enjoy this with me!
MAGNUS Issues 1-3
At the height of an intergalactic war, a lost prince must reclaim his birthright and save two worlds before losing everything he loves.
I tripped across this book just perusing through Kickstarter one afternoon, and ended up backing this on Day One! I am really impressed with the quality of what I see here, and I’ve communicated with Devin Arscott on Twitter a lot — we share some love for isolated, lonely, burdened, yet OP characters and his Magnus fits nicely with my Milestone.
Fun fact: Devin is working with us to [possibly] pen a back-up Milestone story! More to come on this news in a later post…
American Dreams Vol 1 TPB
A Jewish immigrant gains powers from a Thomas Edison experiment gone awry. Collects Issues 1-5, PLUS new material!
This is a really strong indie debut series from Daniel, and I’m looking forward to more from him. In fact, he let me preview his Knightwrath comic’s first issue and I think I like that one even more!
Basically, imagine if Superman were born in the early 1900s in NYC. And Jewish1. Take it from there with your imagination. Daniel is a devout Jew and that keeps his book personally informed with his culture in ways that guide and craft the story very nicely. I can see Tommy Shelby coming across Liberty in an episode crossover with American Dreams, if you know what I mean (and if you’re not watching Peaky Blinders2, WTF are you doing??)
RIOT EARP #1 and 2 - 56 Pages+ each, Complete Stories
The second in the sci fi action comic book series, plus catch up with the first.
I recently friended Michael Katz, the creator of Riot Earp, and I’m pretty impressed with him as both a fellow creator and human. Good dude, appreciative and kind, smart and humble. This book is really fun — a spritz of Solo, a dash of Firefly, a sprinkle of Blade Runner, and a drizzle of CSI make for a witty, intelligent, original book with really strong art to support the story. Give it a look!!
Glarien of White Ash 1-2: A Fantasy Series for Mature Readers
Glarien follows the early days of White Ash's most dangerous elf as told through the eyes of Rachel, a young woman living in 1970's NYC.
I can’t say enough about the work that Charlie Stickney’s work. He’s DAMN GOOD. Oh, and he happens to be one of the single-nicest dudes in comics. What he’s put together with Glarien and White Ash is just… just go check it out for yourself. This book is definitely NSFW so know that before you go perusing the page. But, if you’re into fantasy action with a bit of mystery, and don’t mind the gore or sex, you’ll love this one.
Running List of Campaigns…
I don’t have space or time to type up all of the great campaigns that I’m backing/following, so hopefully no one feels slighted here. These are every other campaign on my RADAR today:

Superman was created by two Jewish guys by the names of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster!
NSFW for language, violence, and sex. Also, I recognize not everyone likes the same things, I’m just being a goof and promoting something I absolutely enjoy. If you don’t like it, that doesn’t make me right or you wrong or whatever, it just makes us different. Enjoy what you like!
